What is maximum size of logical volume?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7

Issue

  • What is maximum size of logical volume?
  • Is there any size limit in creating Logical Volume with LVM?
  • What are the LVM size limits in Red Hat Enterprise Linux server?
  • Filesystem limitation in Logical Volume
  • Maximum filesystem size that can be used in lvm

·         The size of logical volume depends on size of Physical Extend ( PE ) and size Logical Extend (LE).
    • It is possible to define size of PE/LE during physical / logical device creation.
    • The default PE/LE size if 4MB.
    • If the size of Physical Extents is increased, there are almost no limits for size of LVM.
·         Following table shows the size limits for different architectures using the default PE/LE size.
    • There may be additional limitations on boot devices above and beyond the LVM limits themselves.
